Mean Green Juice Recipe

If you are like me and watch tons of documentaries, it is very likely that you would have come across an inspiring film by Joe Cross called “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead”. This film chronicles Joe’s personal mission to regain his health after realizing his life was on a downward spiral. Joe was 100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease. Having no success with conventional medicine, Joe turned to the only option left, the body’s ability to heal itself. Joe decided to drink Mean Green Juice as made a 3,000 mile journey across America for a period of 60 days. I will leave the ending for yours to discover…

This film inspired me to take immediate action by researching for the best juicers and places to buy fresh produce.

Best Juicers – Upon extensive research online and in-person at many department stores, the one conclusion I made was that Breville Juicers always came on top. I found that Breville Juicers were solidly built both mechanically and aesthetically. Also, they are easy to clean, which you will definitely appreciate if you are juicing daily. I purchased Breville Juice Fountain Compact, which I thought had a good combination of power, features, good price point. Whole Apples? No problem with its 700 watts motor!

Now that we have laid the foundation with both what inspired me and buying my first juicer, let’s focus on the Juice.

Here is a picture of my countertop:

As you can see most (except the ginger and lemon) are all green. Why green? Green fruits and vegetables contain lots of antioxidants; vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which keeps your body protect itself from bacterial and viral infections, cancers, diseases, and common illnesses. Green leafy vegetables contain the most vitamins and nutrients.

Key guideline for green juice is 60% dark green leafy vegetables and 40% other vegetables/fruits. Unless you are doing a juice cleanse, drinking up to 4 x 16-20 ounce drinks per day, I started by drinking 1 liter (approx. 33.81 ounce) per day first thing in the morning. Since you get the most nutrients drinking right after juicing, if at all possible, try to drink within first 20 minutes of juicing. If you plan on making a full days worth, keep it in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator.
